Mile High Flood District (MHFD)

Denver, Colorado

StudioCPG’s ongoing interest in flood control and water resources is reflected by diverse range of project types including the redevelopment and revegetation of lakes and waterways in both urban and rural contexts. We work closely with engineers and geotechnical experts to develop sustainable solutions for large scale infrastructure and redevelopment projects as well as localized stormwater and water quality improvements. StudioCPG worked on the following projects with MHFD:

Weir Gulch Major Drainage Plan & Flood Hazard Area Delineation: Master Drainage Plan and Flood Hazard Area Delineation

Lakewood and Denver, CO

This project redefines the Urban Drainage and Flood Control Districts approach to stormwater management along the length of Weir Gulch in Lakewood and Denver. The project has a direct bearing on planning for parks and regional trail development along the gulch. StudioCPG is worked with a multi-disciplinary project team to identify and illustrate opportunities for multiple use solutions embedded in measures proposed to meet new requirements for storm management.

Montclair Drainage Major Drainage Plan & Flood Hazard Area Delineation

Denver, CO

StudioCPG is provided landscape architecture services and design for Major Drainageway Plan and Flood Hazard Area Delineation for Montclair Drainage from City Park north to East 40th Avenue in Denver.

Upper Westerly Creek Major Drainage Plan & Flood Hazard Area Delineation

Denver, CP

StudioCPG is provided landscape architecture services, design and assistance in coordination with project sponsors (Primarily Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space) including identifying issues and developing and analyzing conceptual alternatives.

Niver Gulch Major Drainage Plan & Flood Hazard Area Delineation

Denver, CO

StudioCPG is provided consulting, site planning and design for Major Drainageway Plan and Flood Hazard Area Delineation for Niver Gulch. StudioCPG assisted in coordination with Project Sponsors, including identifying issues and developing and analyzing conceptual alternatives.

First Creek Channel Reconstruction

Denver, CO

StudioCPG is provided landscape architectural services for a series of restoration projects along the First Creek corridor upstream of Peña Boulevard as it connects I-70 to Denver International Airport. Includes trail design, design for landscape restoration and preparation of visual simulations illustrating alternatives in design approach.

Montclair Drainage Outfall Systems Plan

Denver, CO

Working with Enginuity Engineering Solutions, StudioCPG developed concepts for “daylighting” the Montclair Storm Main from 26th Avenue and York north to a proposed regional flood detention facility at 39th Avenue and High Street.
Concepts build upon historic development patterns including the Denver Parks and Parkways System and the historic “City Ditch” irrigation distribution system to develop a plan that will remove large areas of the Park Hill, Whittier and Cole neighborhoods from the flood plain and connect them to the Platte River Greenway, Fastracks and Air Train transportation systems, redevelopment at River North and at the future National Western Fairgrounds. Concepts included alternative configurations based on understanding trade-offs between urban design and flood control benefits and neighborhood and regional impacts.

Greenwood Gulch

Greenwood Village, CO

Channel improvements at Greenwood Gulch are a second generation flood control measure intended to reduce overspill potential and cattail habitat through what had been a state of the art peak reduction, flood control facility when constructed in the late 1980s. The original engineered channel was ideal habitat for cattails that have flourished and greatly reduced the channel’s cross-sectional capacity. The new, low-flow channel will utilize advanced stabilization methods to run more steeply along the corridor and drain the cattails.
