SAFE LANDINGS

Plants are always on the move, their seeds hitching rides on wind, water, or animals in search of new territory. As our climate changes, seeds must travel further afield to find growing conditions that support them. Open ground is increasingly limited, and on the Front Range these places are typically dry and hot.

One of our favorite design strategies at StudioCPG is to slope pavement so rainwater collects in shallow ditches and depressions. The increased moisture supports a wider variety of vegetation. When a travelling seed lands here, it is more likely to settle in and take root. This is one way we are helping to build a more resilient world.

Trail runoff at First Creek is directed to a swale with a rich diversity of plants, some of which planted themselves.
