Place Bridge Academy

Denver Public Schools, Denver, Colorado

The outdoor spaces at Place Bridge Academy extend the learning community outside, with the building creating embracing yards for all kinds of play and discovery that are consistent with DPS’s commitment to implementing learning landscapes at all elementary schools. Playgrounds include traditional play pits and open fields, as well as enhanced natural areas. There, gardens and nature play zones include shade trees, textured pathways, native plants, sand, boulders, dirt, rolling grades, environmental art, and hose bibs, with the intention of creating places for open-ended play exploration. The grounds include shade structure gathering spaces for outdoor classrooms and quiet play, and trees planted throughout the campus will provide shade spring through fall and allow sunlight through during the winter. Our work also included site planning to support new bus and drop-off routes to simplify routes and enhance safety on campus.
