Cesar Chavez Park

Denver, Colorado

Streetscape improvements at the edge of Chavez Park in northwest Denver prompted the Department of Parks and Recreation to engage StudioCPG  to prepare both a master plan and construction documents for the redevelopment of the  a cherished but underutilized urban park.

The Design

The park was formerly a school site and isolated from the street by a retaining wall and 12 foot chainlink fence. The design called for the removal of the entire fence and portions of the wall to create a street level plaza abutting a commercial corridor within the Tennyson Street Cultural District. New entry points and site circulation activate both the park and the street edge. All planning and design was completed on an accelerated, 5-month schedule.

Cesar Chavez Park looks amazing. I carefully studied the drawings, and the completed project has far exceeded my expectations. I LOVE the stairs
