Aurora Reservoir Water Purification Facility

Aurora, Colorado

Prairie Waters is a water resource development project providing a new source of potable water to the City of Aurora. The new infrastructure recaptures the City’s own wastewater and runs it through a natural filter before piping it 34 miles to a state-of-the-art filtration system. The water then is used and redeposited into the river.

StudioCPG provided Master Planning, Landscape Design Guidelines, Site Planning Services and Landscape Construction Documents for the new Water Purification Facility at Aurora Reservoir. The plant is immediately adjacent to Senac Creek Corridor Open Space and the Master Plan balances management goals for sensitive sites with requirements for constructing, maintaining and operating the facility.

StudioCPG coordinated

the use of excess excavation at the plant site to cap and restore a failed experimental sewage sludge application on the adjacent uplands in Open Space. The cap covered a twenty year old invasive weed infestation with up to six feet of fill and was designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding topography.
